Day 1

We landed in Santiago at 7 in the morning and cleared customs and changed money by 9:30. Suzy had a package to deliver to a friend which was our only planned task in Santiago. We managed to find a bus to the subway and a subway to her friends neighborhood, find a hostel nearby, and deliver the package before noon. We were very proud of ourselves, especially since neither one of us had looked for a map or a hostel before coming..... After a visit to the local artisan market in a nearby park, we took an afternoon nap and then wandered the Bella vista neighborhood. Santiago's version of Greenwich village, full of street cafes, live music, and happy people enjoying Friday night. I am sure that there is a different side to Santiago as there us in every city, but so far our impression was very favorable. Santiago appears to be a very liveable city, with beautiful parks, cultural opportunities, and great public transportation.
